Major congratulations are in order for Laurie McAndish King:

Laurie McAndish King‘s photo won 1st place in the Natural World category of Smithsonian magazine’s 7th annual photo contest. Laurie got the shot of a tiny tree frog nestled in the leaves of a colorful succulent last April on a BATW press trip to Mendocino County. The photo is on page 69 of the June issue of Smithsonian magazine, and will be included in a photo exhibit on view at the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from July 1, 2010 through January 16, 2011.

Way to go, Laurie!

    Laurie,

That is so very very cool!

    Congratulations!

I think I told you earlier that I went to the website and looked at all the photos BEFORE I read the photographers’ names, and yours was the one that leaped out at me. I’d have voted for yours anyway, because you’re my friend and you’d steered me there, but it’s so much more fun when it’s also the most impressive. Well deserved!

    Brad

Laurie, when my Smithsonian arrived I went first to look at your photo, to make certain that they spelled your name right, and to gloat to myself that you are a friend. Never hurts to let a friend share her glory with you. Felicitations!!! Georgia
