April Meeting: Hotel Diva, San Francisco – April 18, 2015

April 18, 2015: Public Speaking for Writers and Other Introverts
Prepare for your Pulitzer at our April program! OK—Maybe you’re not preparing to win the Pulitzer Prize, but you probably have some public speaking in your future, and you probably want to look comfortable and engage your audience. Join author and corporate trainer Betsy Graziani Fasbinder for a fascinating and informative program on improving your presentation skills.
What:
Betsy’s program offers mental shifts and simple techniques to instantly make you more confident and effective as a speaker. Whether you’re terrified of public speaking or just want to add polish to your presentations, you’ll learn to improve your “presence” and bring your natural self to speaking opportunities.
Because of space, the event is limited to 40 BATW members.
Optional Extra Workshop:
Betsy will also offer an optional 3-hour interactive workshop at the same location after the regular BATW meeting. With specific skill-building exercises and personalized coaching, participants will discover their strengths and challenges as public speakers. We’ll learn the basic delivery skills (how to use our faces, hands, voice, and bodies) to engage listeners, overcome nerves, and deliver talks with confidence and authenticity. Betsy creates a playful, non-intimidating atmosphere in her workshops. Even the most nervous participants find her classes to be not only learning experiences, but confidence-building as well.
Important note: This workshop is limited to 12 people, so all can participate interactively. The cost is $25 per participant. (This is a terrific deal, and only a small fraction of what you’d otherwise pay for a comparable workshop.) Please mail your check for $25, payable to Bay Area Travel Writers to me (Laurie McAndish King) to reserve your place in the workshop. Space will be allocated on a first come-first served basis. (Please check your EventBrite invitation or log onto the BATW member directory for my mailing address in Novato.)
Where:
“Sexy, modern and absolutely not for everyone” — that’s San Francisco’s Hotel Diva, the host for our meeting. When you arrive, be sure to check out the one-and-only Diva Sidewalk of Fame, featuring signatures of celebrity guests. We’ll also have an opportunity to view the artist-designed diva lounges, 24-hour fitness center, and newly remodeled business center. The Hotel Diva is at 440 Geary Street, near Union Square.
Schedule:
10:00 Meet-and-greet
10:30 Business meeting
11:00 Program followed by hotel tour
1:00 Optional interactive workshop (about 3 hours)
RSVP:
Members only: RSVP for this meeting through your EventBrite invitation. Cancellations should be made via EventBrite as well. Note the new BATW policy on registrations and cancellations here and in an email sent to members earlier.
Also: Please RSVP separately for the optional workshop by mailing me your check for $25, payable to Bay Area Travel Writers. Space will be allocated on a first come-first served basis. (Check your Eventbrite invitation or log onto the BATW member directory for my mailing address.)
